Overview
The Department of Art and Design s fortunate to be part of a research university, offering a variety of opportunities to our students. We are a studio-oriented department including a wide range of visual arts activities and subject areas. Our student population includes ~350 undergraduate and 20 graduate students, who come from many locations in the mid-Atlantic and across the US. We have 19 fulltime faculty who are dedicated to our student activities and learning, as well as active in their own creative practice.
The department enjoys an excellent reputation. Our facilities, including a large computer lab, digital and electronic equipment, and spacious studios, support a variety of artistic and design practices. The proximity of the University to major cultural centers of the northeastern United States provides students with easy access to important museums, galleries, internships, field trip options, and allows for an outstanding program of visiting artists.
Undergraduate Educational Programs
The department offers three undergraduate majors: Art (Bachelor of Arts), Fine Arts (Bachelor of Fine Arts), and Visual Communications (Bachelor of Fine Arts). The department also offers a Minor in Art.
Graduate Educational Programs
We offer an M.F.A. in Fine Arts, attracting national and international artists who are interested in study within an interdisciplinary format and with our accomplished faculty.
