2. Grants Training Sessions Schedule
There was discussion concerning the number of sessions, and length of sessions and the timing of the sessions. More outside input is needed before final decisions can be made.
3. Grants Training Session
Ellen led the attendees through the PeopleSoft grant proposal screens. The Header tab is one of three tabs requiring data entry before the proposal can be saved. The second tab is the Projects tab, where we were told not to use the default for the department (#9 on page 2 of handout). The third tab is the Location tab. Once this is completed, the proposal can be saved.
Next Ellen reviewed the budget header. The Budget ID must be “1.” The budget is for all periods, and includes Direct, Facilities & Administration, and sub-recipient budgets, if applicable. It is very important to click the “Facility & Admin Set Up” button to establish indirect rates.
After the Budget Header “Periods” tab is the Budget Line Summary. The “cost share” section is not used. In a later training session, we will cover sub recipients and multiple projects. It was agreed that there needs to be more work done on the cost share instructions. There will be instructions on copying data from one section of the proposal to another. The budget line salary instructions need to be fixed.
The “Proposed Resources” page was reviewed. Ellen warned to be careful of which project you are in. It was recommended to do “Plain Jane” proposals before doing the sub-recipient work. It’s too confusing and can add complications later.
On the “Proposal Reports” page the “Abstract and Major Goals” are needed for NIH.
After the “Proposal Documents” page, we covered the “Proposal Certification” page, the “Gender and Minority” page, the “Proposal Trainee” page, and the “Proposal Key Words” page. As many key words as needed can be set up.
