3:33 p.m., Aug. 19, 2008--Courtney Stewardson, a 2008 graduate of Furman University, has been named a graduate assistant coach with the University of Delaware volleyball team by Fightin' Blue Hens Head Coach Bonnie Kenny.

Stewardson, a native of Apple Valley, Minn., joins a coaching staff that includes Kenny as well as Associate Head Coach Cindy Gregory.

While at Furman, Stewardson completed her undergraduate work in the field of health and exercise science last season. She is now pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership at Delaware

During her time with the Paladins, Stewardson was a standout setter over her four-year career. A two-time All-Southern Conference selection, she led a potent offense that ranked first in the league in hitting percentage during her junior and senior seasons.

On an individual level, she finished second in the conference in assists per game during each of her last two seasons. As a junior, she posted a 12.46 average before notching an 11.89 mark during her senior campaign. She capped her career in third place on the school's all-time assists list with 4,572.

A graduate of Apple Valley High School, she led her volleyball team to two top-five finishes in the state tournament. An All-Conference and All-State selection as a senior, Stewardson garnered her squad's most valuable player award.

Delaware will open the 2008 season on Friday, Aug. 29, when the squad travels to California to take part in the Cal State Fullerton Tournament. The following weekend, the Hens will kick off their home slate when they host New Hampshire, Syracuse, and Michigan State during the annual Delaware Invitational from Sept. 5-6 on Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.
