Delaware volleyball defeats Madison, Mason
Kelly Gibson helped lead UD to victory over James Madison.
10:02 a.m., Nov. 5, 2007--The University of Delaware volleyball team clinched a top-two seed in the Colonial Athletic Association playoffs after downing George Mason University 3-0 Saturday night at Barbara Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.

The Fightin' Blue Hens also defeated James Madison University 3-1 on Friday in a conference match. They are now 25-4 overall and 9-2 in the CAA, with two regular season conference games remaining. The Hens will travel to the College of William and Mary for a game at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, and to Virginia Commonwealth University for a game at 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9.

The CAA championship tournament will be played Nov. 16-18 at the home court of the highest seed, which could be UD.

In the victory over George Mason, Michelle LaLonde posted 10 kills, five blocks, and four aces to lead the Hens. Kelly Gibson also had a match-high 14 kills, while Stephanie Barry had 18 digs.

Senior co-captains Colleen Walsh and Megan Welch also had outstanding matches. Honored before the contest for senior day, Welch went on to post a match-high 41 assists, while Walsh had 11 kills and four digs.

Paige Erickson had six kills and four blocks during the contest, while Jess Chason added eight digs and two aces. Katie Dennehy also had six kills and two blocks.

The victory over James Madison was the 100th at UD for Head Coach Bonnie Kenny.

The Hens were led Gibson and Dennehy, who both topped the 20-kill plateau. Gibson notched a match-high 22 kills to go along with 19 digs. Dennehy had 21 kills and only four errors during the match.

Welch posted 60 assists in the match, while Barry had a team-high 22 digs. Colleen Walsh added 15 kills and LaLonde had 10 kills, five digs, and three blocks.
