Blue Hen men’s lacrosse defeats Rutgers 10-8

9:27 a.m., March 3, 2008--The University of Delaware men's lacrosse team defeated host Rutgers University 10-8 in a game between two nationally ranked teams on Saturday afternoon in Piscataway, N.J.

The Fightin' Blue Hens trailed 6-4 with 13:52 left in the third quarter then scored six straight goals to secure the win.

UD senior Vincent Giordano and sophomore Martin Cahill scored three goals each, including two each during the pivotal 6-0 run.

Cam Howard had two goals and one assist, Curtis Dickson had one goal and one assist and D.J. Widlake had one goal. J.J. Moran had two assists and Carter Bloor won 11 of 15 face-offs. UD goalkeeper Tom Scherr had 11 saves.

With the win, the Blue Hens improved to 4-0. They are ranked No. 9 in the new U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll announced Monday.

UD will return home for a game against the University at Albany, which is ranked No. 16 in the USILA poll, at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 8, at Rullo Stadium. They will then travel to Georgetown University for a game at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 12.
