3:47 p.m., Feb. 8, 2008--Cited for “performance that goes above and beyond normal job responsibilities and outstanding and unusual service,” Rebecca Streets, front office manager of the Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel, has been named Employee of the Year by the Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association. The award was given at its Annual Stars of the Industry awards dinner, Feb. 1.

Streets was nominated by Tracy Holmes, director of operations. Calling her a “mastermind over numbers,” Holmes said Streets could “dissect a report and find the underlying facts faster than a high school science teacher can dissect a frog.”

Streets is a “leader amongst her peers and the person everyone goes to for answers,” Holmes said. “She is cleaning rooms, moving banquet tables and serving breakfast, even though none of these areas are her responsibility. The phrase 'attention to detail' best describes her; you will rarely be able to catch a mistake on her watch.”

Streets was part of the opening management team of the hotel and served as executive housekeeper and is now front desk and revenue manager.
