Delaware women’s tennis defeats Towson 7-0

8:32 a.m., April 9, 2008--The University of Delaware women's tennis team defeated host Towson University 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon to remain unbeaten in the Colonial Athletic Association and match its best overall start since the 2004-05 campaign.

Senior Susan Pollack got the Fightin' Blue Hens started with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Towson's Evelyn Izaguirre at No. 1 singles, while freshman Courtney Fenimore defeated Cassandra Ng 6-1, 7-5 at No. 2 and sophomore Elena Berry defeated Amanda Scatuorchio 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3.

UD junior Amanda Campbell defeated Ashley Peretz 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, senior Alexa Dragonette defeated Natalie Walten 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and freshman Ivana Petrich defeated Katie Young 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. UD captured two of the three doubles matches to secure the final point of the day, with victories by Pollack and Fenimore and by Berry and Petrich.

With the victory, the Blue Hens are now 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the CAA. The Blue Hens have gone a combined 59-7 (.894) in singles play since the start of the dual-match season.

The team will return to action at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 9, when they visit Georgetown University.
