Blue Hen tennis teams conclude Florida trip
UD’s Alexa Dragonette won singles and doubles matches against Bethune-Cookman.
1:18 p.m., April 2, 2008--The University of Delaware tennis teams wrapped up their spring break tour of Florida with shutout victories over Bethune-Cookman University on Tuesday afternoon at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Fightin' Blue Hens women's team won 7-0 and the men's team won 6-0.

UD sophomore Austin Longacre won 6-2, 6-0 over Emil Vassilev at No. 1 singles and teamed with junior Nolan Greenberg to win 8-0 over Vassilev and Stefan James at No. 1 doubles. Greenberg defeated Christian Cruz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

UD sophomore Sam Barrer dropped the first set before rallying to a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 triumph over James at No. 3 singles and freshman
Chris Hincker defeated Yannick Jackson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Senior Jonathan Schwartz defeated Jerome Ward 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and sophomore Camilo Perez led Kristofer Martin 5-5, 30-0 at No. 6 before the match was called due to rain.

Barrer and Perez returned for an 8-3 defeat of Ward and Martin at No. 3 doubles, giving the Blue Hens their final point of the day.

UD senior standout Susan Pollack defeated Monika Musilova 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, freshman Courtney Fenimore defeated Andrea Paez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and sophomore Elena Berry defeated Jeneice Ward 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 for her eighth consecutive singles victory.

Junior Amanda Campbell and senior Alexa Dragonette took 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles over Reijina Hopkins and Melanie Cheatham, and freshman Ivana Petrich defeated an injured Shaunda Gaiter in a 1-0 walkover.

Pollack and Dragonette defeated Musilova and Paez 8-5 in No. 1 doubles, while Campbell and Dragonette defeated Ward and Reijina Hopkins 8-0 at No. 2. Berry and Petrich took a walkover win at third doubles.
