Blue Hen baseball team falls to Delaware State

8:17 a.m., April 9, 2008--Delaware State University scored eight runs in the ninth inning to defeat the University of Delaware 10-6 in a nonconference baseball game played Tuesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Delaware State trailed 6-2 heading into the ninth but exploded for eight runs on four hits and two Fightin' Blue Hens errors. UD reliever David Slovak took the loss, giving up three hits and three earned runs. Starter Dan Richardson worked six innings, scattering five hits and allowing just one run while striking out five batters.

Centerfielder Adam Tsakonas had two hits, a double and a triple, for the Hens. Second baseman Kyle Davis also had two hits, driving in two runs and scoring one. Catcher Ryan Reed hit a home run.

With the loss, the Blue Hens dropped to 10-19 on the season. They will return to action with a game at Rutgers University at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 9.

UD will travel to James Madison University for a weekend Colonial Athletic Association series. The teams will meet at 3 p.m., Friday, April 11, and at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and April 13.
