Carroll men’s lacrosse associate head coach

Greg Carroll
10:30 a.m., Dec. 7, 2005--Greg Carroll, who has served as the top assistant coach for the University of Delaware men’s lacrosse program for the last six seasons, has been promoted to the position of associate head coach.

“It is a pleasure to announce Greg’s promotion,” UD Head Coach Bob Shillinglaw said. “We felt it was important to recognize the tremendous contributions Greg has given to the Delaware men’s lacrosse program over the last six seasons, and we hope he continues his association with Delaware for many years to come.”

Carroll is a coach who has “tremendous passion and enthusiasm, and has a great rapport with the players,” Shillinglaw said. “He has been a tremendous asset as a recruiter, along with all aspects of the program, especially coaching the defensive end of the field. His contributions will continue to assist us in our goal of being one of the top teams in NCAA Division I.”

Carroll, 30, has helped guide the Fightin’ Blue Hens to three 10-win seasons, including an 11-6 mark in 2005 when UD captured the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title, advanced to the conference tournament championship game and earned an at-large berth in the NCAA championship tournament.

UD went 10-6 in 2000 when the Hens tied for the America East Conference regular season championship and advanced to the conference tournament title game. UD also went 10-6 in 2004, when the Hens reached the CAA tournament semifinals.

A native of Long Island, N.Y., Carroll was a standout player at Harborfields High School and moved on to a four-year career at Loyola College, which reached the NCAA tournament four straight times.

Carroll began his coaching career in 1998 at Severn Prep High School in Severna Park, Md., and then accepted a position as assistant coach at NCAA Division III Washington & Lee College in Lexington, Va., where he helped lead the Generals to a record of 13-2 and a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals in 1999.
