Blue Hen football team gets votes in final poll 10:33 a.m., Dec. 22, 2005--The University of Delaware football team earned recognition in two national polls after finishing the season with a 6-5 record and a two-game winning streak. The Fightin Blue Hens earned votes in the final NCAA Division I-AA polls announced this week by both the Sports Network and ESPN/USA Today. The Hens earned six votes in the Sports Network poll and four votes in the ESPN/USA Today poll. Although UD finished outside the top 25 in the final polls, the Hens spent seven weeks in the rankings during the 2005 season, reaching No. 5 in both polls in late September. NCAA Division I-AA national champion Appalachian State University finished No. 1 in both polls, earning all 78 first place votes in the Sports Network poll and all 25 first place votes in the ESPN/USA Today poll. The top 10 in both polls was identical with national runner-up Northern Iowa selected No. 2 and followed by Furman, Texas State, Atlantic 10 Conference champion New Hampshire, Cal Poly, Southern Illinois, Richmond, Georgia Southern and Hampton. |
