Blue Hen tennis teams top CAA rival Hofstra

UD’s Brittany Barsky was named the Colonial Athletic Association women’s singles player of the week after going 3-0 for the Hens.

9:50 a.m., April 13, 2006--The University of Delaware tennis teams swept Colonial Athletic Association matches against Hofstra University on Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware Field House courts. The UD women's team won 7-0, and the men's team won 5-2.

Susan Pollack and Amanda Campbell highlighted the match for the UD women as Pollack defeated Erika Reggiani 6-0, 6-2 at No.1 singles and Campbell defeated Stacey Kent 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Pollack and Campbell also teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Reggiani and Jill Spiritus to win their 20th doubles match of the season, tying the school record set by the team of Kristin Wasniewski and Rachel Dencker, who went 20-1 during the 1997-98 season. Pollack and Campbell improved to 20-5 on the season in doubles while, individually, Pollack improved to 16-6 at No. 1 singles and Campbell improved to 13-8 at No. 2 singles.

Other winners for the UD women were Liz Perlow at No. 3 singles, Sari Shuster at No. 4, Alexis Dragonette at No. 5, and Brittany Barsky at No. 6. Barsky improved to a team-leading 16-3 at singles this season with her fifth straight win. Dragonette and Barsky then teamed for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Shuster and Julie Schiller won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to finish off the sweep.

For the UD men, Nolan Greenberg, Adam Liebman, Jason Schwartz and Josh Levine all picked up singles victories while Jason Hanschmann and Philip Wayne teamed for a win at No. 2 doubles and Schwartz and Levine were winners at No. 3 doubles.

Greenberg improved to 13-6 on the year in singles play while Schwartz improved to 12-5 and Levine to 10-6. Wayne improved to 41-22 all-time in doubles play at UD, moving into a tie for fourth on the all-time career doubles wins list.
