Spirit group reborn as The Cockpit Its not that the spirit has died. To the contrary, its alive and well and living in a new form, now called, The Cockpit. The Cockpit may have the same goal as Blue Hen Fever, but its a new organization with a new name, new logo and new six-person board of directors to oversee it, according to Cockpit coordinator Curtis Krouse, who is a marketing associate in the Intercollegiate Athletics Program. Krouse said both Blue Hen Fever and The Cockpit were formed to promote school spirit by encouraging regular attendance at sporting events, thereby bringing a true home field advantage to each game, but thats where the similarity ends. Krouse said the new organization is going to designate some nonfootball games as Cockpit events where students can earn credits toward prizes for attending and supporting the team. The Cockpit is also supporting football games, but Krouse said it would be difficult, logistically, to arrange sign-ins for prizes. Anyone who goes to at least five nonfootball games during the fall semester and signs in will be eligible to win a spring break trip. Those attending at least five games during spring semester will be eligible to win a notebook computer. And, by attending at least 14 games other than football during the academic year, those who signed in will be eligible to win a home entertainment system, including a 32-inch flat screen HDTV and a DVD home theatre system. For each game attended after the fifth and 14th, the students name is entered again, giving that person a better chance to win. Cockpit members receive an official Cockpit T-shirt and Cheerstix at select games, giveaways at those games, UD Bookstore discounts, DART bus discounts and an opportunity to participate in promotions during the designated games. The Cockpit is sponsored by the University Bookstore, the UD Alumni Association, Coca-Cola and DART. Article by Barbara Garrison To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
