YoUDee celebrates 10th year Click here to view slide show 3:47 p.m., Feb. 17, 2004--YoUDees from the past and the present flocked to The Bob Carpenter Sports/Convocation Center to shake some feathers and join fans young and old in a celebration marking the University of Delaware mascots 10th birthday during halftime festivities at the UD vs. University of North Carolina at Wilmington game on Monday, Feb. 16. Joining the current UD mascot team, including YoUDee and Baby Blue, were 11 mascot team veterans, plus four former Baby Blues, as well as former mascot coordinator Edward Stoner. UD spirit also was evidenced by crowd-pleasing performances by the dance team and the cheerleaders. Past YoUDees who now serve as professional mascots joined in the fun, including Clutch of the Houston Rockets, Swoop of the Philadelphia Eagles, Ferrous of the Aberdeen IronBirds and Reggie of the Raymond Entertainment Group.
Everybody, including the mascots, the characters, the cheerleadedrs and the dance team came out on the court and sang Happy Birthday, Sharon Harris, mascot coordinator and assistant director in the Office of Public Relations, said. The kids loved it, and the fans loved it. Following the salute, fans and mascots sampled free birthday cake served by UD Dining Services on the concourse behind the student section at The Bob. Some younger partygoers challenged YoUDee and compatriots in an unusual game of hoops that everybody seemed to enjoy, Harris said. Nobody was keeping score, Harris said, but I would say the kids probably won. Article by Jerry Rhodes To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
