UD Relay for Life set for May 10-11

1:40 p.m., May 7, 2003--UD’s 2003 Relay for Life, a team event to help fight cancer and raise awareness and funds for cancer research and education, will be held from 3 p.m., Saturday, May 10, through 9 a.m., Sunday, May 11, in the Delaware Field House at the David M. Nelson Athletic Complex.

Opening ceremonies at 5 p.m., Saturday, will feature a “Survivor’s Lap,” when cancer survivors, wearing purple sashes will make the first lap around the track. A reception for all cancer survivors will follow in the Field House.

Besides cheering on the participants, UD parents, alumni, faculty and staff can show their support by buying luminaria—candles that will be placed around the track at dusk in honor of cancer survivors and in memory of cancer victims.

Donations of $5 per luminaria are suggested. Checks—made payable to the American Cancer Society, with UD Relay marked in the memo section—can be mailed to Kathy Maddox, Relay for Life Luminaria, 351 Rodney Hall E, Newark, DE 19711. Checks should be accompanied with a note indicating the person in whose honor or memory each donation is being made. Luminaria also may be purchased through 6 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at the Field House.
