Aug. 13, 2002--Bayard Sharp, 89, a longtime University of Delaware friend and benefactor, died Aug. 9, 2002.

Bayard Sharp Hall, the renovated 19th-century church on the west campus in Newark, was named in his honor after he provided funding for its renovation and restoration, which was completed in 2000.

Mr. Sharp was a direct descendant of E.I. du Pont, founder of the DuPont Co.
