Donald Puglisi has been named MBNA America Professor of Business Emeritus in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the University of Delaware, Acting Provost Dan Rich has announced.
Puglisi joined the UD faculty in 1971 and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in securities analysis, portfolio management, management of financial institutions, corporate finance and related fields.
He has published several articles in professional journals and other publications and has advised the Blue Hen Investment Club, which manages a University portfolio.
Also, Puglisi has served as commissioner of the Delaware Public Service Commission, which regulates investor-owned utilities, since 1997.
During his tenure at UD, Puglisi received the Medal of Distinction in 1996, the Excellence in Teaching Award, the Excellence in MBA Teaching Award and the College of Business and Economics Outstanding Teaching Award four times.
When he was named MBNA America Professor of Business in 1992, he established, using the stipend from the professorship, the John F. Puglisi Scholarship in memory of his father.
Puglisi also served as a visiting research scholar in the Office of Policy and Economic Research of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, D.C., in 1980-81 and, as a UD Public Service Fellow, consulted with the Delaware state treasurer to develop a cash management system in the summer of 1980.
He has served as a consultant and expert witness in several litigation cases and also is managing director of Puglisi & Associates, a firm that provides investment management, accounting and other services to holding companies and special purpose finance companies.
Puglisi received his bachelors and MBA degrees from Michigan State University and his doctorate from Indiana University.
