Alumni Briefs
Four alumni honored with new award
The College of Business and Economics presented its first Alumni
Award of Excellence Oct. 5 to the Hon. Thomas R. Carper, Delaware
'75M, Delaware's U.S. Representative; Calvert A. Morgan Jr., Delaware
'70, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Bank of
Delaware; Janet C. Rzewnicki, Delaware '78, Delaware state treasurer;
and Paul C. Seitz, Delaware '71, partner-in-charge, Wilmington office,
Price Waterhouse.
The award annually recognizes alumni who have exhibited
excellence in their careers and personal achievements. Selections are
made by a committee of the Business and Economics Alumni Association.
For information or to nominate alumni, call Joyce Hart, assistant to
the dean, at (302) 831-2551.

Chapters offer many opportunities
The chapter program that serves the interests of more than 70,000
University alumni throughout the nation runs through a volunteer
network.
Jim Bennett, Delaware '73, leader of the Lancaster (Pa.) chapter
for the past five years, says participation "has helped me solidify my
friendships with those at the University and alumni in the area."
Bennett has organized such events as last spring's reception with
President David P. Roselle and annual freshman send-off parties at his
home.
Chapters incorporate alumni from different geographical areas
into an organized unit to offer educational, cultural, social and
volunteer opportunities. Most importantly, chapters keep their members
informed about University of Delaware activities and developments.
Leaders help select and organize all aspects of the chapter's
activities. In addition, they serve as liaisons with the Office of
Alumni Relations, which provides support services and training for the
position.
For further information about becoming a chapter leader, contact
Alumni Associate Skip Cook at (302) 831-2341.

BAO cited for recruitment efforts
At its inaugural recognition awards reception, the University of
Delaware Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity honored
the Black Alumni Organization (BAO) for its continued efforts to
recruit African-American students. The BAO was also cited for its
ongoing interest in diversity issues.

Alumni may nominate professors for awards

advising awards.
Nomination forms are available from the Faculty Senate office in
Hullihen Hall, telephone (302) 831-2921, and at the main desk of the

     The Excellence-in-Teaching and the
