Entrepreneur magazine has recognized the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as one of the top 100 U.S. colleges and universities for entrepreneurs.
More than 700 entrepreneurship education programs were researched for the article, which appeared in the magazine's April issue.
The evaluation was conducted for the publication from September to December 2002 by TechKnowledge Point Corp. of Santa Barbara, Calif., a research and referral exchange for entrepreneurship and business development. It was the first survey of its kind that Entrepreneur has published, but the magazine says it plans to continue it annually.
The study examined more than 30 criteria for each program, including course offerings, faculty teaching and research, outreach to the business community, research centers and institutes, degrees and certificates offered and evaluations by faculty and alumni.
An entrepreneurial spirit is critical in today's economy, as large industries restructure and job creation occurs in smaller organizations, says Michael Ginzberg, dean of the Lerner College. He says the College educates and supports students in understanding how to start and operate new businesses and how to develop new ventures in existing corporations.
The College offers a variety of entrepreneurship courses and programs, including a graduate program for teachers in the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, a "new-venture creation" concentration for MBA students, undergraduate courses in small business management and the opportunity for students to work on real projects with the Delaware Small Business Development Center.
