            of "democracy" but brandishing a club of "dictatorship," Roosevelt 
            is a demon sitting atop the "Grieving Statue of Liberty" in Ono Saseo's 
            January 1942 cartoon. Roosevelt is joined by other Japanese stereotypes 
            of American culture: a debauched "antiwar" sailor, "military action" 
            as a bound (and thus inactive) woman, a striking worker, and a buffonish 
            "Jew" inflating a ballon of profits in the shape of an American flag.
