ELENA BUGLOVA
Dr. Elena Buglova has developed professional experience while participating in long-term response to the accident at Chernobyl NPP. From 1989 to 2002 she served with the Research Scientific Institute of Radiation Medicine and Endocrinology, Minsk, Belarus and was involved in the medical assessment of the health status for population of the territories with different levels of radioactive contamination and different exposure doses, and epidemiological studies of the stochastic health consequences among Byelorussian population due to exposure after the Chernobyl accident.
Since 1996 Dr. Buglova has served as the IAEA consultant in the medical management of radiation emergencies, and since 2002 has been a staff member of the IAEA. She participates in emergency missions to the countries requesting assistance in case of radiation emergency under the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, presents lectures at the training courses and workshops. She is also a contributor to the IAEA publications (requirements, technical documents) in emergency preparedness and response, and serves as scientific secretary of the IAEA publications in her professional area (accident reports, technical documents and training materials).
Dr. Buglova is a Corresponding Member of the Task Group of the Committee 4 of the International Commisssion on Radiological Protection (ICRP) on application of the Commission's Recommendations for the Protection of Populations in the early phase of a nuclear accident or a radiological emergency.
