 | SUMMARYEIIP Virtual Classroom Presentation Understanding the New Fire Grant Program Steve Austin Avagene Moore- Moderator The EIIP Virtual Classroom featured a discussion about the new $100 million Fire Grant Program. The overview of the program was billed as an opportunity to gather advance information and be prepared to participate in this exciting program. Steve Austin, Fire Service Advisor to the Congressional Fire Service Institute (CFSI), was the featured speaker. As one of the key players in getting the legislation passed for the fire grant program, Steve offered first-hand insight of the program for fire personnel interested in being ready to enter the competitive grant process this fiscal year. As part of the discussion, Steve informed the audience that USFA/FEMA leadership and staff, the national fire service organizations and the government have identified six categories for the first year. The categories for grant awards are: 1) Training; 2) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); 3) Wellness and fitness programs; 4) Fire fighting equipment, including communications gear; 5) Firefighting apparatus, and 6) Fire Prevention Programs. | |

Steve is a 30-year veteran of the State Farm Insurance Companies. He advises State Farm on matters impacting the Fire and Emergency Services. He is involved in national fire service issues as the Director of Governmental Relations for the International Association of Arson Investigators. He also serves on committees of the NFPA, International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Congressional Fire Services Institute among others. He is a Past President of the Delaware Volunteer Fire Firemen's Association and the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association. He is an active member of the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company of Newark, Delaware where he serves as a fire police officer. * * * * |
