To use Scheme in emacs:

go to the Customize menu
Programming ->
Languages ->
Lisp ->
Scheme

then set (and save) the Scheme Program Name to

/opt/plt/bin/mzscheme

This works on Strauss. You can now open an interpreter window by typing

M-x run-scheme

On your own machine, just substitute the correct location of mzscheme.
