Title:   Increasing the Impact of Quality and Statistical Projects: A Statistical Engineering Approach

Global Competition and ubiquitous electronic communication systems has made it imperative that significant changes be made in how we work if we are to remain competitive today and in the future. These needs apply to statisticians and other quality professionals as well as to all workers around the world. An effective way to deal with this need is to increase the impact of our work. Increasing impact can come from solving large, complex problems that are of importance to the organization you serve. When such problems involve processes and the collection and analysis of data there is a good chance that the concepts, methods and tool of statistical engineering will be helpful in identifying and solving such problems. This presentation will include what statistical engineering is, why it is important and how to use it. Several case studies of its uses will be presented and the difference between statistical engineering and the traditional application of statistics will be addressed. Problems discussed include creation of systems for continued process improvement and verification, Quality by Design and product quality management. The session will be interactive with ample time for questions and discussion.
