Title: |
Bioinformatics, Statistics & Biology
|
Abstract:
Statistics were developed to understand and quantify variation in
natural systems. The application of statistics to biology benefits
biological researchers in a wide range of aspects, including more
powerful and efficient study designs. However, the lack of effective
communication between biologists and statisticians has limited the
development of bioinformatics. If scientists in both fields increase
their cooperation, there will be a brighter future in both
bioinformatics and biology.
Biography:
Ms. Chen is a PhD candidate in the Department of Biology and an MS
candidate in the Food & Resources Economics (FREC) Statistics Program
at the University of Delaware. She is also a graduate student intern
with the Biostatistics group in DuPont Crop Genetics R&D at the
Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE. She is an expert in
molecular biology, bioinformatics and statistics. Accordingly, Ms.
Chen has a unique perspective on the intersection of statistics,
bioinformatics and sub-cellular, cellular and organismal biology.
