Approval

  1. Approval of new Positions

To establish a new continuing position in the Basic or Self-Supporting budget, or to establish any new position in Allocated or Restricted funds, the following steps need to be completed:

    1. Request classification and determination of salary range from the Office of Classification and Compensation.
    2. After classification of position is completed, request approval from the appropriate Vice President or Dean to establish the new position.
    3. If Vice President or Dean approves, they will forward request for new position to the Provost for Academic units, or to the Senior Vice President for Administration for Administrative units.
    4. If the Provost or Senior Vice President agree, the request will be forwarded to the President for approval.
    5. If approved by the President, the normal recruiting process, including contact with the Affirmative Action Office, may begin.
Only the Dean or Vice President's approval is required for temporary positions in the Basic and Self-Supporting budgets, provided the funding is being provided from within the unit.
  2. Approval to Recruit Permanent Replacement Personnel
    1. Forward a request to recruit permanent replacement personnel to the appropriate Vice President or Dean.
    2. If approved by the Vice President or Dean, the normal recruiting process, including contact with the Affirmative Action Office, may begin.
    3. If there is a hiring freeze in place, the approval of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, or the Senior Vice President for Administration, as appropriate, must also be obtained. In such circumstances, the request must include justification for filling the position.
  3. Approval to Recruit Temporary Replacement Personnel
    1. College Deans may approve recruitment of temporary Faculty provided that there are funds available within the appropriate account in the unit.
    2. Recruiting of line-item temporary Professionals, Salaried Staff and Hourly Staff requires the approval of either the Provost or the Senior Vice President for Administration, as appropriate.
