Test Topics:

Test 1 This test deals with the order of operations, exponents, scientific notation, properties of real numbers, solving linear equations and inequalities. It will also include word problems, how to work with formulas and working with linear inequalities and inequalities involving absolute value.

Test 2 This test will cover working with various forms of linear equations, graphing linear equations and working with linear inequalities. It will also cover solving systems of linear equations by Graphing, by Substitution and by Elimination.

Test 3 This test will cover adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing polynomials. It will also cover graphing polynomials and how to factor polynomials.

Test 4 This test will cover addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of rational expressions and equations. It will also cover working with radicals, radical equations and how to solve quadratic equations.

Grading Policy:

TEST #1            100%                         There will be 4 tests and a final
#2            100%                         exam. The final will count twice.
#3            100%                         One of these 6 grades will be
#4            100%                          dropped so your final grade is
FINAL (Counts 100%                          based on 500 points.
              Twice) 100%

                                  A     93% and Above         C    73-76
                                  A-    90-92                          C-   70-72
                                  B+   87-89                          D+  67-69
                                  B     83-86                          D     63-66
                                  B-    80-82                          D-   60-62
                                  C+   77-79                          F     Below 60%

*If you have an "A" average after the first 4 exams (nothing dropped) then you are exempt from the final exam provided
you come to class and complete all work through section 8.6.

Class Guidelines:

1. You are responsible for all class material if you miss a class.

2. If you miss a test you must have a documented medical excuse, or a reason I feel is appropriate, in order to take a makeup.
Please contact me at the office or at home within 24 hours if this happens to let me know what is wrong.

3. Homework will be reviewed during class and the Friday lab.

4. Lab attendance is required until the first test. If you maintain a "C" average lab will become optional. If at any time your average
falls below a "C", you will be expected to come to the lab.

5. If for some reason you cannot make a Friday lab, see me before that lab to set up an appointment to look over your homework.

6. Although the tests are worth 100 points, there will be some pop quizzes given at various times that will give you an opportunity for extra credit.
These quizzes are similar to homework and there will be no makeup quizzes given.

7.  Only non-graphing calculators will be permitted. If you need to borrow one for a test a few will be available.

8.  Most of your tests require graphing. You are to bring your own graph paper for these tests.
