UD alumni recognized for career milestones
The University inducted 10 new members to
its Athletics Hall of Fame: Stephanie Barry Courtney, BE10; Omar Cuff, AS08; Ken Dill, HS82; Bruce Fad, AS71, 72M; Sarah Gause Flanders, HS86; Leah Maceroli, AS05, 07M; Ted Kempski, HS63, EHD65M; Joe Lank, HS52; George Schmitt, ANR84; and Steve Shaw, BE86.
Two alumnae were named Outstanding Intermediate School Teachers for 2015 by the Optimist Club of Westfield, N.J. The Westfield Board of Education presented Christine Cabrales, HS01, of North Plainfield, N.J., and Erika Hodges, EHD05, of Cranford, N.J., with the award earlier this summer.
Two alumnae from the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences have received a Distinguished
Author Award from the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. The graduates, Michelle Francis, HS13, AS13, and Angelica Montes, HS13, were recognized for a publication they authored as undergraduate students.
Seven alumni have received the “40 under 40” award, given by Chains Inc. to honor “outstanding Delaware industry professionals... who stand
out in all aspects of their lives.”The UD alumni include: Dana Herbert, BE98; Darnyelle Jervey, AS97; Dustin Parker, AS10; Wali Rushdan, AS06; Monique Taylor-Gibbs, EHD00; Adrienne Wallace, AS07; and LaShawn Ward, AS02. Two professors—Yasser Payne, associate professor of Black American studies and Dan Young, BE97, 99M, instructor in business—were also recipients of the award. z
Sandra Millard, EHD99EdD, of West Grove Pa., has been named interim vice provost and director of libraries for the University of Delaware.
2000s
Stephanie Ferrell, BE00, AS02M, of Newark, Del., opened Olive
Tree Cafe in Chestnut Hill Plaza in Newark, offering food from Morocco,
France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Lebanon. Ferrell is co-owner, along with her husband, and serves as manager for the restaurant’s marketing and front of house.
Lauren Micchelli, BE00, of West Caldwell, N.J., has published four children’s books in the last year. They can be found at her website, www.laurenstories.com.
Katie Wirth, BE00, of Abington, Md., was named executive director of Girls on the Run of Harford and Cecil counties in August.
Alyson (Brown) Fillipone, BE01, of Sewell, N.J., was promoted to assurance partner at Ernst & Young.
Lamont Browne, BE02, EHD04M, 09EdD, of Wilmington, Del., recently received the Ryan Award, a national award honoring transformational school principals.
Elizabeth M. Gannon- Rittenhouse, AS02, EHD06M,
of Elizabethtown, Pa., has earned her EdD in educational leadership and policy from Drexel University after defending her dissertation on heteronormativity and its effect on LGBT students’ feelings of school belonging.
Matthew Mingle, AS03, of Hillsborough, N.J., has been
appointed assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for the Madison, N.J. Public Schools.
Jessica C. Moller, AS03, of Stony Brook, N.Y., an attorney with Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC, has been recognized in the 2015 New York Metro Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” list in the field of employment and labor.
Amy Rubens, AS03, of Florence, S.C., recently accepted a tenure-track position as an assistant professor at Radford University, where she will be teaching business and professional writing courses and helping to launch a graduate certificate program in professional writing.
Wendy Garcia, AS04, of Bronx, N.Y., was named one of 10 Latinos changing the world by Siempre Mujer magazine.
Janet Dees, AS05M, of Santa Fe, N.M., has joined the curatorial team of Northwestern University’s Block Museum of Art.
Mike Fox, AS05, of Charlottesville, Va., has been promoted to copy desk chief at The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va.
Shaun Rieley, AS05, of Washington, D.C., has started a position as a policy analyst for Concerned Veterans for America, and has been accepted to a PhD program at the Catholic University of America to study political theory and American government.
Patrick Dougherty, BE06, of Washington, D.C., has been promoted to professional resource director and market associate of The Siegfried Group.
Chris Duke, EG06, of Exton, Pa., has been hired as part of Becker Morgan Group’s engineering staff.
Craig Sendach, BE06, of Westbury, N.Y., has established a New York site for Touching Hearts at Home,
a national home care service company for aging adults. His operation is located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
Nate White, BE07, 09M, of Hockessin, Del., has created and
