University of Delaware Figure Skating Club July 2005 Newsletter |
Six delegates from the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club attended the USFSA Governing Council meeting on May 6-7. During this annual meeting, representatives from figure skating clubs nationwide gather to vote on rule changes and changes to the Association's bylaws. USFSA Officers and committee chairs review the activities of the Association and their respective requests for action.
At this year's meeting, the Governing Council delegates approved a major restructuring of the Board of Directors of the USFSA aimed at reducing the size of that body. Group coordinators who have oversight for various committees will be members of the Board of Directors and will act as the voice of the committees.
The Governing Council delegates also approved that the US adopt the ISU Judging system. Extensive training efforts are taking place this summer, and the new judging system will be used at National and Sectional competition for the 2005-06 competitive season. A listing of training sessions for the ISU judging system is available on the USFSA web site at www.usfsa.org. Skaters and coaches are welcome to attend these training sessions.
A detailed account of all of the decisions reached by the 2005 USFSA Governing Council delegation is available on the USFSA web site.
Many thanks to the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club delegation: Monica Dabney, Bill Fitzpatrick, Betty Garvin, Alice Rakowski, Jerry Santoferrara and Sandy Shacklady-White. Our delegates travel on their own time and fund some of their own expenses to represent the Club. In addition, delegates spend significant time becoming familiar with the issues to be discussed at the meeting and determining the position that best helps the members of our Club. We are fortunate to have a group of folks who treat this responsibility with a high degree of professionalism.
Join us on Sundays in the Rust Ice Arena for a dance-preferred session from 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. and a freestyle-preferred session from 5:45 - 6:30 p.m.
Members: $11/session or 10- session card for $100
