Seasonal events including sports, hayrides, tours bring Blue Hens together

3:54 p.m., Sept. 17, 2015--Across the country, seasonal events like professional football and hockey games — along with University of Delaware football watch parties — are bringing Blue Hens together. 

For non-sports fans, upcoming alumni events include a hayride, a tour of a chocolate factory and a fall foliage cruise.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Most of the events are deeply discounted, thanks to the support of the University of Delaware Alumni Association.

Following are UD alumni activities for coming weeks:

Saturday, Sept. 19, 11 a.m.: Blue Hen watch party, North Jersey. Blue Hens will gather at the Ale House in Hoboken, New Jersey, owned by UD alumnus Joe Berg to watch the football team take on Villanova University in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. Fellow alumni Colby Janisch and Tucker Littleton, co-owners of 902 Brewing, will share some of their best brews.

Sunday, Sept. 20, 1:45 p.m.: Baseball series in Atlanta. The summer alumni baseball series will continue with a game between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies at Turner Field in Atlanta. There will be a pre-game reception at the Top of the Chop Patio.

Thursday, Sept. 24, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago cruise, barbecue. The Chicago Alumni Club will host a cruise and barbecue through Wendella sightseeing boats, touring the Chicago River. There will be Goose Island Beer and Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue.

Saturday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m.: North Jersey mountain hike. The Northern New Jersey Alumni Club will sponsor a nature hike at Pyramid Mountain in Montville, featuring a spectacular view of the New York City skyline.

Friday, Oct. 2, 6 p.m.: Phoenix art night. The Phoenix Alumni Club will present Blue Hen Art Night, featuring a presentation by UD alumna Betsy Fahlman.

Saturday, Oct. 3, 12:45 p.m.: Boston chocolate factory tour. Blue Hens are invited to enjoy a tour of Taza Chocolate in Somerville, Massachusetts, to be followed by an optional tour and lunch at the nearby Slumbrew brewery.

Thursday, Oct. 8, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago happy hour. The Chicago Alumni Club will host happy hour at the Public House on North State Street.

Saturday, Oct. 10, 5 p.m.: Baltimore Symphony. The Baltimore Alumni Club will offer a tour and reception at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, followed by a performance by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Friday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m.: 'Green Light' symposium. Alumni are invited to attend the Art and Science: Connections and Intersections symposium titled “Green Light: Prospects in Lighting Design and Technology” at Clayton Hall on the University’s Laird Campus in Newark.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, 5:30 p.m.: Philadelphia Flyers hockey. The Philadelphia Alumni Club will host a pre-game reception at McFadden’s Ballpark followed by an NHL game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Dallas Stars at the Wells Fargo Center.

Thursday, Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m.: North Jersey happy hour. Alumni are invited to happy hour at Teak on the Hudson in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Saturday, Oct. 24, 5 p.m.: Killens Pond hayride. The New Castle and the Kent and Sussex county alumni clubs will host a fall hayride at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware. A bonfire will follow.

Saturday, Oct. 24, 5 p.m.: Susquehanna fall foliage cruise. Blue Hens are invited to enjoy a fall foliage cruise aboard the Pride of the Susquehanna, boarding in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Monday, Oct. 26, 5:30 p.m.: Arizona football viewing party. The Phoenix Alumni Club will host an NFL viewing party at UD’s Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens battle the Arizona Cardinals. The event will be held at Ernie’s Bar and Restaurant in Scottsdale.

Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m.: Philadelphia’s Please Touch Museum. The Philadelphia Alumni Club invites Blue Hens and their families to join them for a day at the Please Touch Museum.

Saturday, Nov. 14, 1 p.m.: Pittsburgh ‘Grains to Glass’ tour. The Pittsburgh Alumni Club will offer a “Grains to Glass” tour at the East End Brewing Company.

Monday, Dec. 14, 4:30 p.m.: Miami Dolphins tailgate. The South Florida Alumni Club will hold its fifth annual Miami Dolphins outing, as the team hosts the New York Giants in a game at Sun Life Stadium.
