Newark Police investigate robbery on East Cleveland Avenue

1:02 p.m., Oct. 2, 2015--Newark Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred around 1:21 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2, in the unit block of East Cleveland Avenue in Newark.

According to police, three suspects armed with handguns entered the residence through an unsecured door and demanded money and drugs from two victims, male University of Delaware student ages 19 and 20.

During the course of the robbery, one of the victims was pistol whipped and assaulted causing a minor injury. He refused medical attention on the scene. The suspects ransacked parts of the residence and left with an undetermined amount of money.

The suspects, all armed with handguns, are described as: a black male with dark complexion, approximately 22 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, average build, weighing 170-175 pounds, dressed in all black, with a black hooded sweatshirt with a face mask; a black male with a medium complexion, approximately 18 years old, 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, slender build; and a black male with a dark complexion, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, approximately 18-22 years old.

The Newark Police Criminal Investigations Unit said it is investigating this case as a drug related home invasion style armed robbery. That investigation is ongoing.
