UD freshman featured in Abode x Colossal outdoor mural exhibit in Brooklyn
1:36 p.m., Oct. 30, 2015--Becca Gispert, a freshman art student at the University of Delaware, was the youngest artist to be featured in the Adobe x Colossal competition, an outdoor mural exhibit in Brooklyn throughout the month of October.
Dubbed the World’s Biggest Student Art Show, the artwork was translated to fit on building walls in Brooklyn. Gispert was one of 10 female artists from various universities to have her artwork displayed on this grand scale.

The project’s goal was to empower female artists to both create and share their work in a broad, public setting. And there is perhaps no better venue than the streets of Brooklyn, New York.
Adobe x Colossal, a partnership between Adobe Creative Cloud and Colossal Media, was responsible for the selection, installation and painting of the featured art on city walls throughout Brooklyn.
Gispert’s selected piece, called “Disposable,” was inspired by a trip to the dollar store. The resulting photo came from a good deal of tinkering with the colors, props and models.
Her winning photography explores the relationship between color and pattern, and pattern and objects. Through her vibrant, humorous and provocative style, Gispert pokes fun at stereotypes and ironies.
“Overall, it was such an awesome experience,” says Gispert. “Seeing my work so big in public like that was such a weird, surreal experience. I couldn’t be happier with the way everything turned out.”
Gispert discovered the contest through the Instagram account of a prominent female artist she admires, Jessica Walsh.
Interested students in the opportunity were asked to tag their best work on Behance, the social networking platform for creative professionals, using the hashtags #madethis and #Colossal.
The artwork ranged across diverse mediums including photography, illustrations, paintings, drawings, fashion design sketches and even art created on a Xerox machine.
Work by Gispert and the other artists can be viewed here.
