3:49 p.m., March 8, 2016--The University of Delaware will host several hundred college and university planning professionals from March 30 to April 1 for a regional conference titled “Preparing for the Unexpected: Integrated Planning to the Rescue.”

The Mid-Atlantic conference of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) is being organized by Paul A. Pusecker, senior business officer for the College of Arts and Sciences and SCUP’s regional chair, in collaboration with UD Facilities.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Established in 1965, SCUP is a community of more than 5,000 senior, higher education and corporate leaders who are responsible for, or are involved in, the integration of planning on their campuses. It offers members such resources as a planning institute and the opportunity to interact with individuals from other institutions to share information about trends and best practices.

The Mid-Atlantic conference will center on ways in which integrated strategic planning can help prepare for a future that is increasingly uncertain for institutions of higher education. Issues being faced by colleges and universities include rising costs, budget cuts, declining enrollments, natural disasters, on-campus violence and reputational threats — all while technology is changing the traditional ways of teaching, learning and interacting with others.

The conference will feature about 28 concurrent presentations on a variety of planning topics. More than 400 participants are expected to attend, including college and university employees involved in integrated physical or academic planning as well as professionals such as architects, engineers and consultants who work with educational institutions.

Those attending the conference will also have the opportunity to see the UD campus. Tours are scheduled of Harker Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory, Roselle Center for the Arts, Carpenter Sports Building, Trabant Student Center and Rodney Dining Facility.

“I want to showcase the University to people who have never been here, or who haven’t been here in many years, so they can see the beauty of our campus and the construction that’s occurred in recent years,” Pusecker said.
