‘Genealogy for Beginners’
This workshop will cover the basics for researchers who are just starting to work on their family histories. It will present an overview of the types of records that contain genealogical information as well as strategies for finding and recording this data.
Attendees will learn how to search the online database Ancestry Library Edition for U.S. census records and city directories.
“Genealogy for Beginners” will be offered from 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, April 21, in Library Instruction Room 116A on the first floor of the Morris Library.
Presenters will be Rebecca Knight, associate librarian, and Linda Stein, librarian, both of the Reference and Instructional Services Department.
Ship passenger lists
U.S. ship passenger lists and manifests, oaths of allegiance and naturalization records have become increasingly important sources of data for historians, biographers, genealogists and students interested in American studies.
Participants in this workshop will discover how to find information about immigrant arrivals in the United States using the Ancestry Library Edition database and other online resources.
“Locating Historical Ship Passenger Lists and Naturalization Records” will be offered from 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, May 19, also in Library Instruction Room 116A. Knight and Stein will be the presenters.
These workshops are available at no charge and are open to UD students (including students in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute), faculty, staff and the general public. Seating is limited and registration is required. Online registration is available at this website.
