Although it is primarily an African dance team, the troupe features a very diverse group of men and women students of various cultural backgrounds, Jean-Charles, a senior exercise sciences major, said.
“Our team is enriched with passionate dancers who use DASA Dance Troupe to express themselves in an environment free from judgment and open to creativity,” she said.
In preparation for the VCU competition, the team spent months planning, organizing and dancing. The work paid off, as they competed against six other dance teams and won the championship.
“Given the opportunity to dance at another university and being chosen as the most creative, energetic and entertaining team has been not only a blessing for us but further proves the potential of our dancers,” Jean-Charles said.
