Delegations will come from all across the United States and Canada, as well as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and South Africa.

“I am glad to give back to the Delaware community by showing off our wonderful school to so many people across the world,” said Shawn Butler, a history major and one of the volunteer chairs.

The conference is student-organized and student-run, and the planning committee is in need of volunteers from the University community.

“Even superheroes call on their allies for a helping hand,” Butler said, referring to the conference’s theme. “The conference team is looking for volunteers for this event.”

Volunteers do not need to live in a residence hall to volunteer or to get involved. Opportunities will be available for all UD faculty and staff members and students.

“There are so many tasks that need to be delegated,” said Amanda Flagg, junior psychology major and communications chair for the conference planning team. “Volunteers can help with sustainability, transportation, media/technology, communications, or just helping people have a great time.”

More about NACURH and the conference

NACURH’s mission is to be the leading national organization advocating for the interests and welfare of residence hall students, while also providing opportunities for personal growth and development as leaders.

The NACURH conference provides attendees the option to attend a variety of programs presented by student leaders to learn about initiatives and skills that other universities have mastered and would like to share.

Rachel Zolotarsky, a UD senior and the annual conference chair, describes the conference as a hidden undergraduate gem and a long weekend of high spirit.

“These conferences have the ability to change a person’s life by introducing them to new ideas, new people, and constant self-development,” Zolotarsky said. “I knew I wanted to be involved on UD’s campus and I wanted to grow as a person – NACURH helped me get there by opening my eyes to what being a leader truly means.”

Why volunteer?

Volunteers receive free housing, free food and swag, and have lots of fun assisting in the largest student-run and student-organized conference in the world.

“If your interests are all things social media, you can volunteer with the communications chair to take photos throughout the conference and display them through social media platforms,” said Flagg. “If going green is your forte, volunteer with the sustainability chair.”

Zolotarsky agrees and said, “Being a student-delegate is great, but being able to be a part of this conference experience as a volunteer is equally as rewarding. It's a chance to meet more people from our University. As a student, it's also your chance to get a taste of NACURH to maybe apply to go as a student-delegate to NACURH 2017.”
