Dennis Assanis to take office as UD's next president June 6
1:09 p.m., April 5, 2016--Dennis Assanis, currently provost of Stony Brook University, will take office as the next president of the University of Delaware on Monday, June 6. Acting President Nancy Targett made the announcement at the General Faculty meeting on April 4.
After a nationwide search, UD's Board of Trustees unanimously elected Assanis at a special meeting of the board on Nov. 18, 2015. The resolution approving his appointment stipulated that he take office 'no later than July 1, 2016.'

"Dr. Assanis has been wrapping up his commitments and obligations at Stony Brook University," Targett said, "and he will now be able to begin his duties at Delaware on June 6."
Targett's term as acting president will end June 5. She became UD's acting president on July 1, 2015, with the departure of Patrick T. Harker who took a position as president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Earlier this year, Targett was named provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of New Hampshire. She begins there Sept. 1.
