Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

“Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity to honor victims and survivors, to draw attention to the issues that still exist around intimate partner violence, and to connect those in need of resources,” said Jennifer Ewald, intimate partner violence counselor with Student Wellness and Health Promotion.

The specially designated month “also provides the opportunity to reflect upon the health of our own relationships and those around us,” Ewald said. “Students often do not think of domestic or intimate partner violence as something they may experience while in college, however the reality is that almost half (43 percent) of college women report experiencing some violent and abusive dating behaviors.”

Ewald said that UD Student Wellness and Health Promotion “offers individual counseling and psycho-educational groups around healthy relationships and dating/intimate partner violence right here on campus.”

To learn more, get advice or just talk, Ewald said students can call 831-3457 or visit the office at 231 South College Avenue to schedule an appointment.
