8:08 p.m., Oct. 3, 2014--University of Delaware Police have charged three Maryland men in connection with an assault and attempted robbery on the Newark campus in the early morning of Friday, Oct. 3.

Around 1:26 a.m., Oct. 3, a 20-year-old male UD student walking on The Green near Sharp Residence Hall reported that he was harassed by three men, one of them bumping into him and trying to start a confrontation. When they asked to look through his book bag, he showed them that only had a dollar and then fled across Main Street and called 911. The suspects walked south toward Delaware Avenue.

Minutes later, a UD Police officer encountered a 21-year-old male UD student who said he had been assaulted by three men in the fire lane on the east side of Harter and Sharp Residence Halls. One of the suspects bumped into him, trying to start a confrontation, and then punched the victim in the left side of his head. He fled into the Galleria. The victim declined medical treatment.

Newark Police assisted UD Police in apprehending the three suspects on Lovett Avenue, south of Pearson Hall.

Arrested were Calron R. Scott, 22, of Elkton, Maryland; Randall E. Letendre, 20, of Elkton, Maryland; and Josh Garcia, 18, of Chesapeake City, Maryland. The suspects are not affiliated with UD.

They were each charged with second degree attempted robbery, second degree conspiracy, third degree conspiracy, third degree assault and third degree trespass, and each released on unsecured bond of $10,001. They were also issued no contact orders with the victims and the University.
