Unsung Hero
In 2014, the U.S. Figure Skating Membership Committee created the Checklist for Success self-assessment tool for the use of skating clubs around the country.
The clubs were asked to spend some time assessing their organization in five areas -- leadership and governance; business practices and financial management; membership development; programs and events; and community relations.
UDFSC scored itself in the five areas and submitted a report card to U.S. Figure Skating headquarters.
Next the club identified areas of improvement and developed a plan on what it needed to do to improve in each of the five areas.
Six months after the initial evaluation, UDFSC repeated the self-assessment and submitted a new report to U.S. Figure Skating.
Because of UDFSC’s marked improvement in each of the Checklist for Success categories, the club was recognized for being a strong club and presented with the banner.
