UD Police investigate early morning robbery

11:15 a.m., July 13, 2014--University of Delaware Police are investigating a robbery that occurred shortly after 2 a.m., Sunday, July 13, on West Delaware Avenue near the south side of the Trabant Parking Garage. 

A man was walking on the sidewalk and heard steps behind him when he was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. While he was down, cash and a cell phone were removed from his pocket. The victim got to his feet and struggled with his attacker. A second man separated them and the pair then fled on foot.

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

The victim, who is not at UD student, declined medical treatment. 

The first suspect is described as a white male, 25-30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 160-170 pounds, with brown eyes, short brown hair and scruffy facial har on his chin, wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and boots. The second suspect is described as having the same age, build and attire, without the facial hair.

UD Police issued a text and email alert around 3 a.m., July 13, advising the University community of the incident, with recommendations to be aware of one's surroundings, use well-lit paths and walk in groups when possible.

Safety tips

UD Police remind members of the University community to take precautions to safeguard themselves against crime: 

• Show a confident attitude and be alert and aware of your surroundings. 

• Avoid walking alone at night. Walk with a group, ride a UD shuttle bus or call for a walking escort.

• Use well-lighted paths and sidewalks, and take the most direct route. 

• Report all suspicious activity by calling 911.
