During the investigation, police reviewed surveillance video from Kildare's that showed the majority of the incident. On the video, the victim can be seen being thrown to the ground by an off-duty Kildare's employee, Johnathan Brown, 24, of Bear, Delaware. Powell is then seen punching the victim in the face causing injury. Another person questioned during the initial incident was Jaxon Brown, 24, of Bear, who is a bouncer at Kildare's and the twin brother of Johnathon Brown.
During the initial stages of this investigation, all persons involved denied knowing Powell. After a press release was distributed by the Newark Police and also posted on Facebook with a still image of Powell, police received an anonymous tip providing Powell's name. Subsequent investigation revealed that Johnathon Brown, Jaxon Brown and Jordon Powell are all brothers.
Powell was charged and released on April 12 for his involvement in the assault. Johnathon and Jaxon Brown were charged and released on April 23 with hindering prosecution.
