Library sets online seminar 'Fair Use of Physical and Digital Campus'

8:25 a.m., Sept. 3, 2013--The University of Delaware Library invites UD faculty and staff to an online seminar called “Fair Use of the Physical and Digital Campus” on Monday, Sept. 16, from 1-4 p.m. in the Class of 1941 Lecture Room in the Morris Library.

Malcolm Brown, Educause Learning Initiative director, and Veronica Diaz, Educause Learning Initiative associate director, will moderate the online seminar with American University professors Patricia Aufderheide and Peter Jaszi.

How can higher education professional staff best facilitate faculty and student use of copyrighted materials as they teach, learn and research? Aufderheide and Jaszi will explain basic principles of fair use in copyright law, review recent changes in interpretation, discuss the best practices approach as developed by librarians, open-courseware designers, and members of the professoriate, and how to use these tools to facilitate higher-ed mission, both in physical and digital spaces. 

They will also discuss implications of latest litigation and take questions.

The learning objectives of the seminar will be to understand the logic of fair use within copyright, to understand how to work with faculty and staff to apply fair use to their situation, and to know how to manage copyright questions in the digital environment.

The seminar is designed for academic administrators, academic technology staff and directors, faculty/instructors, learning technologists and designers, librarians, and teaching and learning center staff and directors.
