Coast Day transportation between Newark, Lewes offered to UD community


11:22 a.m., Sept. 17, 2013--Free bus transportation is available to Coast Day, the University of Delaware’s celebration of the sea at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes for University students, employees and members of their immediate families.

Organized by the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and the Delaware Sea Grant College Program, Coast Day is a free event that celebrates Delaware’s coastal resources and UD’s marine research. The event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

Buses will depart from the Robinson Hall parking lot at the Newark campus at 9:30 a.m. and arrive in Lewes at approximately 11 a.m. They will depart from Lewes at 4:30 p.m. and return to Newark at approximately 6 p.m.

Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made by 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3. To reserve a spot, contact the Environmental Public Education Office at 302-831-8083 or CEOE-epe@udel.edu with the following information: name, department (if applicable), phone number and number of seats to be reserved.

The buses are generously provided by the University’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

This year’s Coast Day theme, “Building Resilient Coastal Communities,” highlights the measures Delawareans can take to keep the coast thriving. Attendees can learn how to take the proper precautions to reduce the amount of damage caused by storms, floods and severe weather.

Coast Day visitors also can interact with researchers, tour ships, try hands-on activities and attend presentations on a range of topics.

There will be live music, vendor displays and seafood favorites showcased by local chefs at the Crab Cake Cook-Off and the Seafood Chowder Challenge.

While Coast Day admission and parking are free, vendors will be selling food and other items. There is no ATM on the campus grounds.
