Through Dec. 13: 'Mario Vargas Llosa'

University Library announces exhibit on 'Mario Vargas Llosa: Nobel Laureate'


8:04 a.m., Oct. 14, 2013--The University of Delaware Library has announced “Mario Vargas Llosa: Nobel Laureate,” an exhibition in honor of the acclaimed Peruvian author’s visit to UD on Thursday, Oct. 31, and Friday, Nov. 1.

The exhibition displays a selection of works by and about Vargas Llosa from the holdings of the University of Delaware Library and will be on view through Wednesday, Dec. 13 in the Information Room located on the first floor of the Morris Library.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Vargas Llosa is the author of more than 60 works including novels and a wide variety of non-fiction. In addition to being a celebrated member of the Latin American Boom literary movement, he also is known for his participation in Latin American politics.

Vargas Llosa won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010.

As part of his visit to campus, he will deliver a keynote address in English on Thursday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m., in the Clayton Hall Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

He will also conduct two readings of his work on Friday, Nov. 1, in the Gore Recital Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts. A reading in Spanish will take place at 10:30 a.m. and a reading in English will be held at 2:30 p.m. 

The visit and related events are part of the University’s "Transnational Encounters" visiting authors series.

The curator of the exhibition is Megan Gaffney, associate librarian and coordinator of Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services in the Services, Outreach and Assessment Department of the University of Delaware Library.
