Oct. 9-10: Digital humanities

Speaker to discuss building, sustaining digital humanities


4:35 p.m., Oct. 8, 2013--The University of Delaware Digital Humanities Workshop Series continues this fall with a talk and workshop on the theme "Public Humanities in a Digital World." 

Jennifer Guiliano, assistant director of the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities, will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 5-6:30 p.m. in Room 206 Kirkbride Hall on "Building and Sustaining a Digital Humanities Agenda." The talk is free and open to the public, with no registration required.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Guiliano will lead a workshop, "Getting Your Research Done," in Room 410 Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory. Lunch will be provided, and registration is required; RSVP at

The digital humanities series is offered by the College of Arts and Sciences dean's office and the college's Interdisciplinary Humanities Research Center.

The lecture and workshop series will continue with a showcase of current digital humanities projects at UD on Oct. 15 and sessions by Katie Fortney of the California Digital Library on Nov. 13, Anne Kelly Knowles of Middlebury College on Feb. 27-28, Khalil Gibran Muhammad of Schomberg Center for Research on Black Culture on March 19 and Laura McGrane of Haverford College on April 24-25.
