UD students invited to submit proposals for CGI U conference

11:22 a.m., Oct. 8, 2013--The University of Delaware Institute for Global Studies (IGS) invites students to submit a proposal to the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) to participate in its annual conference.

Founded by former president Bill Clinton, CGI U brings together student leaders, corporate and non-governmental organization leaders, experts and celebrities to create innovative solutions to the world’s most difficult challenges.

Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

UD joined the CGI U network last year, and eight UD students were selected to participate in the 2013 conference, sharing their “Commitments to Action” — new, specific and measurable plans to address a challenge on campus, in the local community or around the world.

“The Clinton Global Initiative University offers students valuable opportunities to gain advice on how to put their ideas into action to improve communities,” said Nancy Guerra, associate provost for international programs and IGS director. “The Institute for Global Studies is excited to again send talented, motivated student leaders to this conference and to be able to offer grants to support conference travel and project funding.”

CGI U will select nearly 1,200 students from around the world to attend the 2014 conference. The conference application and additional information can be found on this website. The early decision and travel assistance deadline is Nov. 22. The final application deadline is Jan. 17, 2014.

The IGS will host general information meetings in Elliott Hall, 26 E. Main St., on Monday, Oct. 21, at 1:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 12:45 p.m. All interested students are encouraged to attend.

Timothy Fowles, a faculty member in the psychology department, will serve for his second year as a faculty mentor for UD students. He will be available to consult on “Commitment to Action” projects with any interested students and can be reached at
