“The thoughts and prayers of the entire University community this morning are with the students who were injured,” said Dawn Thompson, interim vice president of student life. “We are grateful that none of the injuries were life threatening and thankful to the police, emergency personnel and others who responded to help our students.”

According to Delaware State Police, the bus carrying the students was making a left turn from Summit Bridge Road onto Howell School Road when it was struck by a tractor trailer that failed to stop for a red light.  After being struck, the bus overturned.

The students were on their way to an off-campus event at Aqua Sol when the accident occurred. The private bus is owned and operated by First Student Bus Company. Students often hire private buses to attend off-campus events.
