DENIN student group sponsors second annual student video competition

8:04 a.m., Nov. 26, 2013--The Student Programs Committee of the Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) has announced its second annual video competition to raise awareness of environmental issues.

The committee invites individuals or groups of up to five undergraduate and graduate students to submit digital videos up to 10 minutes in length by Feb. 12, 2014.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Finalists in the video competition will be screened and winners announced as part of UD’s first “Lights, Camera, EARTH!” environmental film festival, scheduled for the weekend of Feb. 21–23 in Mitchell Hall.

Co-sponsored by the Environmental Humanities Program in the College of Arts and Sciences and DENIN, the film festival is being organized by Adam Rome, Unidel Helen Gouldner Chair for the Environment, and faculty member in the departments of History and English.

“We are thrilled to showcase the work of our creative and passionate students,” Rome said. “Our students will face many critical environmental challenges, and we are keen to see their visions of the way forward.”

The theme for this year’s competition is “Dare to Be Green.”

“Our theme will hopefully encourage students to think of innovative solutions to address environmental issues on campus,” said Becky Bronstein, chair of the DENIN student group. “We hope that Winter Session will give students ample time to craft a video able to effectively educate and inspire the UD community.”

A $1,000 grand prize will be awarded, as well as a $500 runner-up prize. Complete rules and submission guidelines for the competition are posted on the DENIN website.
