9:42 a.m., Nov. 13, 2013--The University of Delaware will celebrate International Education Week (IEW) from Nov. 18-22 with a world of activities.

IEW, an annual celebration of culture, will kick off with a concert and will include panels of experts, opportunities to meet with representatives from international organizations, activities to relate studying abroad to career interests and a Festival of Nations. There will be music, contests, dance, fashion, film, lectures and food.

Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

The week is dedicated to promoting UD’s global community on campus and is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchanges. Activities are designed to attract students to learn, study and exchange global experiences through the theme “Going Global.”

Students who participate throughout the week will be able to pick up raffle tickets at scheduled events. They can submit these tickets at the Festival of Nations on Friday, Nov. 22, to win a variety of prizes including an iPad.

International Education Week across the country is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.  It was established 13 years ago and is now celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide. IEW aims to “promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States,” according to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs website.

IEW at UD is a collaborative effort of the Institute for Global Studies, Office of Residence Life and Housing, Office for International Students and Scholars, the English Language Institute and the Confucius Institute, with additional contributions from other offices and departments throughout campus.
